Placental Vacuolar ATPase Function Is a Key Link between Multiple Causes of Preeclampsia

Preeclampsia, a relatively common pregnancy disorder, is one of the major causes of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Despite numerous research, the etiology of this syndrome remains not well understood as the pathogenesis of preeclampsia is complex, involving interaction between genetic, immunologic, and environmental factors. Preeclampsia, originating in placenta abnormalities, is i...

Translational analysis of mouse and human placental protein and mRNA reveals distinct molecular pathologies in human preeclampsia.

Preeclampsia (PE) adversely impacts ~5% of pregnancies. Despite extensive research, no consistent biomarkers or cures have emerged, suggesting that different molecular mechanisms may cause clinically similar disease. To address this, we undertook a proteomics study with three main goals: (1) to identify a panel of cell surface markers that distinguish the trophoblast and endothelial cells of th...

Association between Glutathione peroxidase1 gene (GPX1pro198Leu) polymorphism with preeclampsia in south of Iran

Introduction: Preeclampsia is a common and serious hypertensive disorder affecting approximately 5-8 % of pregnancies. The biology of the disease is complex and not understood. This disease associated with increased blood pressure more than 140/90 mmHg in the second half of pregnancy and proteinuria more than 300 mg/24 h and is considered as one of the three leading causes of maternal and fetal...

The Relevance of the Renin-Angiotensin System in the Development of Drugs to Combat Preeclampsia

Preeclampsia is a hypertensive disorder that occurs during pregnancy. It has an unknown etiology and affects approximately 5-8% of pregnancies worldwide. The pathophysiology of preeclampsia is not yet known, and preeclampsia has been called "a disease of theories." The central symptom of preeclampsia is hypertension. However, the etiology of the hypertension is unknown. In this review, we analy...

Relationship between rs3918242 Polymorphism of Matrix Methaloproteinase-9 Gene and Preeclampsia in Pregnant Women

Background: Preeclampsia is a complex disorder of pregnancy with an unknown etiology. Numerous studies have shown the possible role of gene polymorphisms, especially metalloproteinases, in development of this disease, but there are no definitive results. Objective: This study aims to investigate the possible association between rs3918242 (−1562C>T) polymorphism in Matrix Metalloproteinase 9 (M...
